I often ask myself why the idea of network marketing won’t let go of me. So I often revisit my reasoning in my fascination with it. Even though I have not been active in it enough to make it happen for me I know that tomorrow is another day and that I can make it happen despite what my past has been.
It isn’t like I have tried and failed. I haven’t even tried.
But the things that still captivate me about the business model remain constant and I will list them here not only as a reminder to myself but also as way to articulate them to others.
#1. What I don’t want.
I heard someone say once that the reason they do network marketing is because it represents a business model that eliminates a lot of the things they don’t want.
- Don’t want to risk a lot of money to start a conventional business.
- Don’t want a job where…
- their income is limited
- their time is determined by their boss or employer
- they have to “ask off” to go do the things they want to do
- See their kids play baseball
- Go on vacation
- Help family members in time of need
- Be able to do what they want, when they want.
- there is no job security.
- they have to move to work.
- they have to drive everyday in traffic.
- their income stops when they don’t work or when they retire.
- Don’t want to stop working when they “retire”.
- Don’t want to have to work when they “retire”.
- Don’t want to create their own products.
- Don’t want to hire a customer service team and have employees.
- Don’t want to worry about the book keeping aspect of a normal business
- The book keeping is done by the company in terms of that business.
For me, just the fact that you would have to “ask off” to go do something you want to do is enough for me.
But, having said all of that, here are the things that I really like about network marketing.
#2 What I DO want!
- You can maintain and build an income till the day you die. You don’t have to worry so much about pensions, social security or investments when you make a lot of money every month to begin with.
- Although I think all of those things are important and good, isn’t it also great to have a nice income every month because you are still productive?
- You can pass your business down or sell it.
- It is a business just like any other business and it becomes more valuable over time.
- So you can leave it to your kids or sell it to someone else.
- Pay for my expenses with it.
- Pay for my lifestyle with it.
- Buy assets with it.
- Be independent yet associated with a company.
#3 Flexibility
Probably the greatest thing about network marketing is the flexibility. I can work from home, from an office or from anywhere on earth. Every trip can be a business trip.
#4 Virtual
I prefer virtual online businesses that are immediately deliverable, have functionality for the business and are re-billed every month, to create a constant income stream.
#5 Simplicity
I like the simplicity of network marketing. When you think about building one thing, over a long period of time, you may have a learning curve, but it doesn’t take long to get your way of doing business down and so you don’t have to worry about this constant learning to refashion yourself for new things.
As much as I love new ideas it is easy to get caught in the act of learning and never actually do what is necessary to build your business.
#6 Helping others
I want to help others free themselves from the same bonds that have been holding me back in my life.
- Never having enough money.
- Being dependent on a job.
- Not being able to buy what you want but always settling for what you can afford.
- There is a vast difference in driving a BMW and a Kia, trust me.
- Setting families free.
So, in the end, probably the thing that it boils down to for me is…
#7 Recession Proof
Network marketing is affected by world economics, but really, when you have a solid business going, it is like insuring yourself against the recession. A network marketing company is mostly made up of it’s builders and products that people want and need everyday. So, like this product, even if the world economy has issues, your business is not dependent on it, because the bulk of your business are customers and affiliates of products people like and need.
Freedom
Freedom doesn’t mean you don’t have to work, but you decide what, when, where and how you work.
Freedom doesn’t mean avoiding responsibility, but it rewards you for being responsible.
Freedom doesn’t mean not serving others, it means having the freedom to serve others.
Freedom doesn’t mean you don’t have to be a leader, it means that you are a leader because of your example.
I can’t think of any other way to build a business, invest in others and have an “occupation” for life that is leading people into their power and not to the grind of a stressful job.
